Las Vegas Philharmonic’s annual Youth Concert Series (YCS) is one of the most impactful music education programs benefiting students of the Clark County School District (CCSD). For 19 years, this program has provided much-needed, free classical music experiences to approximately 250,000 children, approximately 70 percent of whom attend Title 1/At-Risk elementary schools. The series is one of the cornerstones of our outreach and education initiatives. Prior to attending the youth concerts, third and fourth grade teachers receive a detailed curriculum guide developed through collaboration between Music Director Donato Cabrera, the LVP’s education staff, and CCSD elementary music teachers. This standards-based curriculum links music students will hear at the YCS concerts with topics in science, math, language arts, and social studies. The 2018-19 YCS will enable nearly 23,000 students to experience the concert series.
The 2018-2019 Youth Concert Series Program is “Music of Las Vegas, Music of the World”
History and social sciences come in to play with this global program. Students are exposed to the music of Latin American, Native American, African American, and European cultures in this tour de force of new sounds!
